The Citi Strata Premier (formerly Citi Premier) is the dark horse of premium travel cards. At $95/year, it earns 3x ThankYou Points on dining, groceries, travel, gas stations, and EV charging — five of the most common spending categories. No other card at this price point offers 3x across this many categories. It's ideal for people who want broad bonus earning without tracking rotating categories or managing an expensive premium card.
While the Chase Sapphire Preferred earns 3x on dining and 2x on travel, and the Amex Gold earns 4x on dining and 4x on groceries, the Strata Premier quietly earns 3x on all five categories: restaurants, supermarkets, air travel and hotels, gas stations, and EV charging stations. For a family spending $2,000/month across these categories, that's 72,000 ThankYou Points per year — worth $720+ through transfer partners.
The lack of spending caps is a major advantage over the Amex Gold ($25,000 grocery cap) and Blue Cash Preferred ($6,000 grocery cap). Spend $50,000 at supermarkets and you still earn 3x on every dollar.
Citi ThankYou Points transfer to 17 airline partners including JetBlue TrueBlue, Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles, Air France/KLM Flying Blue, Singapore KrisFlyer, Cathay Pacific Asia Miles, and Avianca LifeMiles. Turkish Miles&Smiles is the standout — you can book United domestic flights for 7,500 miles each way, or Star Alliance business class from the U.S. to Europe for 45,000 miles.
vs. Chase Sapphire Preferred ($95): The CSP earns 3x on dining and 2x on travel, while the Strata Premier earns 3x on dining, groceries, travel, gas, and EV charging. The CSP has stronger transfer partners (especially Hyatt) and 5x on Chase Travel. The Strata Premier wins on breadth; the CSP wins on depth. Both are $95 — get the one that matches your spending.
vs. Amex Gold ($250): The Gold earns 4x on dining and 4x on groceries (higher rates) but costs $250 and requires managing monthly credits to offset the fee. The Strata Premier earns 3x on both plus gas and travel, costs $95, and has no credits to manage. The Gold earns more per dollar; the Strata Premier is simpler and cheaper.
The Citi Strata Premier is the most underrated travel card of 2026. Its 3x rate across five major categories, no spending caps, and $95 annual fee make it an exceptional value for families and everyday spenders. If you want one card that earns strong rewards on dining, groceries, travel, and gas without complexity or high fees, the Strata Premier should be on your shortlist.
