In-Depth Review
Who Is the Venture X Best For?
The Capital One Venture X is the best value premium travel card on the market. With a $395 annual fee that's effectively $95 after the $300 travel credit, it delivers Priority Pass lounge access, 10x Capital One Travel bookings, and a clean 2x earning rate on everything — rivaling cards that cost $550-695. It's perfect for travelers who want premium perks without the complexity of managing multiple credits and restrictions.
Why 2x on Everything Matters
Most premium cards earn 1x on non-bonus categories, forcing you to carry multiple cards. The Venture X's 2x on everything means you can use it as your only card and still earn solid rewards. On $3,000/month in total spending, you earn 72,000 miles/year — worth $720 through the portal or potentially more through transfer partners. That's a 2.4% return on all spending with zero category tracking.
You also earn 10x on hotels and car rentals through Capital One Travel, and 5x on flights through Capital One Travel. The portal prices are competitive with other OTAs, so there's no penalty for booking through it.
Lounge Access & Premium Benefits
The Venture X includes Priority Pass membership with unlimited visits and access to Capital One Lounges — a growing network of premium airport lounges rivaling Centurion Lounges. The Dallas-Fort Worth Capital One Lounge is consistently rated among the best airport lounges in the U.S., with craft cocktails, chef-prepared meals, spa-like showers, and a kids' area. New locations opened in Denver and Washington Dulles in 2026, with 5 more planned for 2026.
You also get Global Entry/TSA PreCheck credit ($100 every 4 years), Hertz President's Circle rental car status, and a 10,000 anniversary bonus every year (worth $100 minimum). That anniversary bonus alone effectively reduces the annual fee to $295 before the travel credit.
The $300 Travel Credit Is Easy to Use
Unlike some airline-specific credits, the Venture X's $300 credit applies to any travel purchase booked through Capital One Travel — flights, hotels, car rentals, anything. It resets on your cardmember anniversary and typically gets used with a single booking.
Transfer Partners
Capital One miles transfer 1:1 to 18 airline and hotel partners including Turkish Miles&Smiles, Air Canada Aeroplan, British Airways Avios, Air France/KLM Flying Blue, Qantas, Cathay Pacific Asia Miles, and Wyndham Rewards. The Turkish partnership is particularly valuable — Star Alliance business class redemptions through Turkish can yield 3-5 cents per mile in value.
How It Compares
vs. Chase Sapphire Reserve: The Venture X wins on effective annual fee ($95 vs. $250 effective) and everyday earning (2x vs. 1x). The Reserve wins on dining bonus (3x vs. 2x) and has a stronger transfer partner network (especially Hyatt). For most people, the Venture X is the better value. Power users who maximize Hyatt transfers may prefer the Reserve.
vs. Amex Platinum: The Platinum costs $695 with more credits to manage, earns 1x on most purchases, but offers Centurion Lounges and hotel elite status. The Venture X is dramatically simpler and cheaper while delivering 80% of the Platinum's travel perks. Unless you specifically need Centurion Lounges or hotel status, the Venture X is the smarter choice.
The Bottom Line
The Capital One Venture X has disrupted the premium travel card market by offering lounge access, 2x on everything, and solid transfer partners for an effective annual fee of $95. It's the best first premium travel card and a legitimate alternative to cards costing 3-7x more. If you want premium travel perks without the premium price or complexity, the Venture X is the card to get in 2026.

Best premium travel card period
When you factor in the $300 credit and 10K anniversary miles, the effective fee is basically $0. Plus 2x on everything and lounge access. No contest.
Capital One Lounges are incredible
The new Capital One Lounges are a step above Priority Pass lounges. Food, drinks, and even a spa at DFW. This card keeps getting better.
Almost perfect
Only giving 4 stars because the transfer partner list could be longer. But the value proposition is unbeatable.
