Amazon Prime Visa Boosts Restaurant Rewards from 2% to 3%
Chase has quietly upgraded the Amazon Prime Visa's dining category:
Updated earning rates: - Amazon.com & Whole Foods: 5% (unchanged) - Restaurants: 3% (was 2%) - Gas stations: 2% (unchanged) - Transit: 2% (unchanged) - Everything else: 1% (unchanged)
Why it matters: The bump from 2% to 3% on dining makes the Amazon Prime Visa more competitive against dedicated dining cards like the Amex Gold (4x) and US Bank Altitude Go (4x). While it's not the highest dining rate, getting 3% on dining plus 5% on Amazon from a no-annual-fee card is excellent.
Who benefits most: Amazon Prime members who previously needed a separate dining card. If your dining spending is moderate ($200-400/month), the convenience of one card for Amazon + dining may outweigh the extra 1% you'd get from a dedicated dining card.
Reminder: This card has no annual fee beyond the Prime membership ($139/year) and no foreign transaction fees.
